Referring a Case

Our clients have all been victims of some form of abuse or trafficking, and to make sure that they receive the necessary crisis and supportive services, we have developed a referral process that will attempt to meet those needs first. Our first concern is the victims’ safety and well-being. By having the victims go to their local domestic violence or sexual assault program first, we can ensure that they will receive such services as an initial needs assessment and safety planning, as well as access to emergency shelter, a 24-hour hotline, support groups, and ongoing counseling.

To refer a case to the Clinic, please send the victim to his or her respective local domestic violence or sexual assault program. At the local program, the victim will receive necessary crisis and supportive services. To address the victim’s immigration matter, the local service provider will complete an initial screening form, which will be sent to one of our eight Regional Intake Centers across the state. The intake center will contact the victim to schedule an intake and submit the completed intake to the Clinic. Once the Clinic receives the intake, we will review the case and inform the victim whether his or her case has been accepted.

We do not have restrictions on what type of immigration case we take, nor do we have strict income guidelines. However all our clients must be victims of domestic and sexual violence and unable to afford an attorney on their own. Case acceptance will be handled on a case-by-case basis and determined on the merits of the case and whether relief is available.
