Rural Law Enforcement Training - Domestic Violence Intervention and Investigation

Specific Topics: Training will expand law enforcement officers' ability to assist victims, to enforce the family violence laws effectively, and to prevent further abuse. Training program graduates will learn to: Conduct effective domestic violence investigations; Understand the dynamics of domestic violence; Understand the impact on society; Use new techniques for interviewing, evidence collection, and determining probable cause; Review and revise public safety and departmental policies on domestic violence; Review state laws pertaining to domestic violence and state and local gun laws; Understand federal laws on search and seizure of firearms and full faith and credit of protection orders; and Building community coalitions to respond to domestic violence.
Audience/Additional Information: Members of rural law enforcement, members of advocacy groups, and members of prosecutors’ offices. Tuition for the trainings is free, however, participants are responsible for their own transportation, lodging, and meals.

Arte Sana Training Institute 2003

In an effort to promote equity within victim services and improve access for under-served victims of gender-based violence, Arte Sana will be hosting a national training institute in April (Sexual Assault Awareness Month). Our keynote presenter will be Melissa Farley, a national expert on sexual trafficking and prostitution who has worked on issues of violence against women for the past 25 years.

This institute will be a multidisciplinary gathering directed at victim service professionals, community activists, law enforcement, medical personnel, therapists, artists, and poets working to reduce gender-based violence in our communities. The Institute’s aim is to promote ideas, tools, strategies, and program models that might help advocates and allied professionals bridge the gaps in services and become agents of change in their prospective fields and in their communities.

REGISTRATION: Conference registration fee is $180 per person prior to the deadline indicated above. For those who wish to register after this date, the cost will be $200.
